About Us

The Windsor-Essex Project Lifesaver chapter operates in conjunction with the Essex County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police and the Windsor Police Service.

Project Lifesaver is a Radio Direction Finding (RDF) system. RDF is a technique used to determine the location of a transmitter based upon the strength of the radio frequency signal produced by the transmitter. Clients who are a part of the Project Lifesaver program wear a radio wrist transmitter emitting an automatic tracking signal. Should their loved one go missing, caregivers are instructed to immediately contact 911.

Windsor Police Officers or Ontario Provincial Police Officers depending on where you live, incorporate their training and the Project Lifesaver radio frequency tracking equipment to quickly locate the missing person. A traditional search consumes approximately 924 man-hours at approximately $1,500 per hour. Project Lifesaver requires 2 searchers and recovery has been under 30 minutes from the time they were last seen.
